Virginia Union University's women's tennis team defeated Elizabeth City State University 7-2 on Tuesday, April 10, at Battery Park in Richmond, Va., to secure second place in the Northern Division of the CIAA.
The second place finish is the highest a VUU women's team has finished since placing second in the Eastern Division in 2006.
VUU's Sabrina Connor won at #1 singles 6-3, 6-4 while Kyra Smylie won at #2 singles 6-0, 6-1.
Virginia Union's Logan Reid won at #3 singles 6-2, 6-0 and teammate Michaela Mondesir won at #4 singles 2-6, 6-2, 1-0.
VUU's Zsakee Crocker won at #5 singles 6-0, 6-3.
The team of Connor/Smylie won at #1 doubles 8-4 while the team of Mondesir/Reid won at #2 doubles 8-1.
VUU is now 7-6 overall and 5-5 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now travels to Washington, D.C., to face Trinity University at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12.
