Virginia Union University's Tabyus Taylor, Jacoby Blackmon and Jefferson Souza have earned CIAA Player of the Week honors, the CIAA announced on Monday, October 29.
Taylor, a sophomore running back from Hopewell, Va., was named the CIAA Offensive Back of the Week. He rushed for 231 yards and four touchdowns in VUU's 53-0 win over Elizabeth City State. He now has 19 rushing touchdowns on the season, second only to Andre Braxton's school-record of 28 rushing touchdowns.
Blackmon, a junior defensive tackle from Belle Glade, Fla., was named the CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week. Blackmon led the Panthers with nine tackles in VUU's 53-0 win over Elizabeth City State. He also had a sack and 3.5 tackles for a loss of 19 yards.
Souza, a sophomore kicker from Deerfield Beach, Fla., was named the CIAA Special Teams Player of the Week. Souza hit 3 of 4 field goal attempts and went 4-for-6 on extra points. He accounted for 13 of VUU's 53 points in the Panthers' win over Elizabeth City State. He now has 38 PATs on the season, the fourth-highest total in VUU school history.
Virginia Union wraps up the 2018 regular season by playing Virginia State University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, at Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
