Virginia Union Announces Founders Day Speaker

     (RICHMOND, VA)  --  Dr. John W. Kinney, dean of Virginia Union University’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, will provide the University’s Founders Day address.  The annual celebration will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Allix B. James Chapel of Coburn Hall.

     Dr. Kinney has served as dean of the University’s Graduate School of Theology since 1992.  Under his leadership, the School has added a Doctor of Ministry Program and a Master of Arts in Christian Education.  The Continuing Education Program has expanded to include activities that serve more than 5,000 church leaders annually.  In recognition of his distinguished service to Virginia Union, Dr. Kinney was named Senior Vice President in 2013.

     Dr. Kinney has served as a consultant to the American Baptist Convention, the Progressive National Baptist Convention, the Baptist General Convention of Virginia, and both the United States Navy and Army Chaplain Corps.  He has also served as president of the Association of Theological Schools, the organization that gives direction to all accredited theological schools in North America.

     Nationally known as a prolific scholar and powerful preacher, Dr. Kinney has served as pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Beaverdam, Virginia for more than 35 years. 

     Virginia Union’s Founders Day event is free and open to the public.
