Virginia Union University (VUU) has been approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to offer an Executive Master of Business Administration (eMBA) degree. The new eMBA program will launch in Spring 2021.

“Virginia Union is focused on meeting the needs of our students who want to continue beyond their undergraduate degrees while also providing the flexibility in class scheduling for those already in their careers to gain a competitive advantage among their peers,” said Dr. Hakim Lucas, President and CEO of Virginia Union University. “We are providing an opportunity for graduate education in areas where recruitment is low, especially for people of color, but the interest is strong.”

The eMBA program is housed in the VUU Sydney Lewis School of Business (SLSB) and was designed to address the shortfall in graduate school enrollment rates, especially among African Americans and other persons of color. The new eMBA program adds to the growing suite of graduate programs in high-demand fields offered at Virginia Union. “This is an exciting time for intellectual innovation and academic entrepreneurial enterprises at the University in our pursuit of ‘Best in Class’ status,” said Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

“This transformative program allows you to master management skills in highly diversified business, social, political and nontraditional environments”, said Dr. Robin Davis, Dean of the Sydney Lewis School of Business. “We are excited about the opportunity to offer such a comprehensive eMBA experience that will prepare professionals at any stage in their career, the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills to lead globally”.

The 33-credit hour program has five specializations: (1) general MBA (2) entrepreneurship (3) global supply chain management (4) hospitality management and (5) church management. Giving VUU competitive advantage in this space, the eMBA program will be offered entirely (100%) online via state-of-the-art technology, Wi-Fi capabilities, web-based services, and more.

“We all know that the global world is constantly changing, asking more and more of business executives across industry lines. Virginia Union University is responding to that challenge by launching our new Executive MBA degree program through the Sydney Lewis School of Business. This program offers students a world-class business education that’s contemporary, competitive, and critical to the economic vitality of Black, Brown, and global communities worldwide,” Provost Strayhorn explained.

The addition of these programs brings the total number of degree programs at Virginia Union to nearly 40 bachelors, 8 masters, and doctoral degrees.   For more information, please contact The Division of Academic Affairs, Office of the Provost, at  academic_affairs@vuu.edu or (804) 354-5609.
