Virginia Union University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mignon Jacobs as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, effective today. Dr. Jacobs joined the University last June, serving as Associate Provost and Professor of Old Testament at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology.
Dr. Jacobs has held several leadership roles in her discipline, community, and professional organizations that include serving on the Board of Commissioners of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) Commission on Accrediting and serving as past-President of the Pacific Coast Region for Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) and the Western Commission for the Study of Religion, among other positions. She is also the author of Haggai and Malachi and has been featured in various publications, including Gender, Power and Persuasion and several other chapters and articles.
We thank Dr. Terrell Strayhorn for his service and leadership of the Academic Affairs team and are pleased to announce that he will now serve as the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) liaison, Executive Director of Transcendent Leadership and Professor of Urban Education. Under his leadership in the Division of Academic Affairs, the University received reaffirmation of accreditation through SACSCOC.
We congratulate both Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Strayhorn as they continue in leadership and we are excited to continue the journey of becoming “Best in Class.”
