At VUU, the path to academic and institutional excellence is paved with the dedication and innovation of its staff. In this spotlight, we're honored to feature the journey and achievements of Mylaka Simpson, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management, who has been instrumental in steering VUU toward growth and success since June 2020. Starting as the Director of Graduate Admissions, her remarkable trajectory to her current role within just a year and a half showcases her expertise and deep commitment to the university's mission.

In facing and overcoming the challenge of reconfiguring the financial aid office, Simpson demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills and a dedication to supporting students in both virtual and physical realms. Her forward-thinking approach to enrollment management, utilizing platforms like Microsoft Teams to address student support issues, has significantly improved the support system for commuters and graduate students, reinforcing his commitment to the university's core mission.

Additionally, under her stewardship, VUU has seen unparalleled achievements, most notably the launch of eight new graduate programs amidst the challenges of a global pandemic. This initiative expanded the university's academic offerings and set a new record for the largest graduate student population in VUU's history. Furthermore, her tenure has been marked by the highest enrollment numbers ever recorded at the university, a testament to her effective strategies and dedication to the institution's growth. Simpson's recognition of Administrator of the Year 2023 speaks volumes about the positive impact of her work on the university and its members.

Simpson says her contributions extend beyond administrative achievements, touching the core of VUU's mission and community impact. She views enrollment management as central to the student experience, a belief that has guided her efforts to ensure that all offices within her division serve effectively and compassionately.

Her legacy at VUU is defined by her unwavering passion, innovative spirit, and authentic leadership. Guided by the principle that "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28 KJV), Simpson embodies the values of faith, perseverance, and dedication to serving the university and its community.

Looking to the future, Simpson remains committed to enrollment management and plans to pursue a doctorate in history in Spring 2025. Her vision for VUU is one of continued growth and excellence, fueled by a passion for education and a dedication to overcoming challenges.
