[RICHMOND, VA – May 15, 2023] -- Virginia Union University (VUU) will host the State Council of Higher Education (SCHEV) for its joint council meetings today, May 15 and tomorrow, May 16, 2023. The council meetings will take place this afternoon on the university’s campus in the Claude G. Perkins Living and Learning Center.
“As Virginia’s oldest HBCU, we are proud to host the council on our campus,” said Dr. Hakim J. Lucas, VUU’s President and CEO. “Out of VUU, a private institution, Norfolk State University, a publicly funded institution, was founded. I look forward to progressive discussions with the council and university leaders on how we can continually create a higher education system that serves all.”
Dr. Lucas will present remarks during the council meeting.
The two-day council will meet to discuss a variety of items, including an update on the higher education budget from the 2023 General Assembly, a review of proposals for the Pell Initiative and the 2023 Six-Year Plan process.
