Virginia Union University Welcomes Dr. Barringer-Brown as Dean of The Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education

[RICHMOND – November 4, 2022] — Virginia Union University is announcing new leaders in its academic and administrative teams.

Dr. Charletta H. Barringer-Brown serves as Dean of The Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education at VUU. Dr. Barringer-Brown is an experienced educator, public administrator, and policy research analyst with over twenty-five years of experience. She has a proven track record of improving research through the use and development of best practices that rationalize the review process. Additionally, she supports faculty and students and works with the community to build highly effective partnerships.

Dr. Barringer-Brown comes to VUU after serving as a tenured Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and as the Faculty Director of General Education at Virginia State University. She also served as an Assistant Dean, Department Chair, and Director of Research at Fayetteville State University from 2004-2018.

Dr. Barringer-Brown has been recognized for her leadership and has received numerous awards, appointments, and honors, such as being selected as a member of the National Humanities Center Teacher Advisory Council (2022-2023), appointment to serve on the Fort Monroe Authority Board of Trustees (unexpired term 2022-2023), and the Fort Monroe Authority Foundation Board of Directors (2022-2025), and the Department of Professional Occupational Regulation (Vice-Chair Cemetery Board of Trustees 2022-2026), Educational Testing Service Visiting Research Scholar (2018), Educational Testing Service Praxis Psychology Board (2010), Marquis Who’s Who among American Educators (2010), BRIDGES Friday Center-University of North Carolina System Women in Leadership Fellow (2009), and Marquis Who’s Who Under 40 (2007).

She holds Post Graduate Professional licensure from the Virginia Department of Education at the doctoral level in Administration and Supervision PreK-12, Psychology, Specific Learning Disabilities K-12, and Emotional Disturbance K-12.

Instead, I must ensure that my students, faculty, and staff are all successful in their endeavors, and this must be my focus. As Dean of the School of Education, I am in the rare and fortunate position of making a real impact within the community, influencing the ecosystem of higher education, and inspiring others to reach their potential.
