[RICHMOND – July 8, 2022] — Virginia Union University is announcing new leaders in its academic and administrative teams.

Dr. Joseph Green, Vice President of Student Development and Success 


Dr. Joseph Green serves as Vice President of Student Development and Success.   

Dr. Green is an educational access and success administrator, teacher, and grant writer. Throughout his twenty-five-year career in higher education, he has served numerous universities nationwide. During his tenure, Dr. Green has focused much of his career preparing first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students for post-secondary education and graduate studies success.   

Dr. Green has provided research presentations and talks for national and international audiences. Additionally, he has been awarded over $24 million in grants and special projects. Dr. Green was director of four federal TRiO programs and academic support centers, and his expertise spans grant writing, retention and student success, mentorship, educational leadership, teaching, management and development, team building, policy development, fund raising and community engagement.   

Dr. Green taught at the University of North Carolina, the University of Central Florida, Marquette University, Norfolk State University, and the North Carolina A&T State University. Dr. Green received his undergraduate degree from Bowie State University and earned his Ph. D. in political science and public administration from Howard University.
