RICHMOND, VA --- October 27, 2023] — Virginia Union University President and CEO Dr. Hakim J. Lucas is excited to appoint Deborah Alston as Assistant Vice President of Stewardship.

In the academic context, Deborah Alston boasts a distinguished tenure of over 36 years as a dedicated member of the Virginia Union University community. Her extensive professional background spans various facets of university operations, including fundraising, alumni engagement, prospect research, and advancement services.
Since 2020, her current role is Senior Director for Alumni Relations and Advancement Services. Prior to this, she held several significant positions within the Division of Institutional Advancement, including Director of Prospect Research and Gifts Management, Director of the Annual Fund, and Interim Director of Alumni Affairs. Throughout her longstanding affiliation with VUU, Alston has been an active contributor to fundraising endeavors, alumni initiatives, and the coordination of special events.
Preceding her association with VUU, she gained experience as a staff accountant at the State of Louisiana Board of Certified Public Accountants in New Orleans, LA.
Academically, Alston holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Virginia State University. Her affiliations extend beyond the professional realm, as she is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and an active participant in the community through St. Paul’s Baptist Church. In her personal life, Alston is a devoted mother, to her sons.
