New Kent, VA - Virginia Union University's golf team placed second in the 2018 CIAA Golf Championship, held on April 19-20 at The Golf Club at Viniterra. Livingstone College shot a final-round 318 and won the championship by 11 strokes over Virginia Union. Livingstone College finished the two-day tournament with a 635 to claim its second title. Virginia Union fired a 646 to take second, while Saint Augustine's finished third with a 671.
Virginia Union's Allan Day and Paul Meints were selected to the 2018 All CIAA Tournament Team, while teammate Robel Woldagabriel was selected to the All CIAA Championship Tournament Team.
"This was our second, second-place finish in the CIAA Championship (2017 & 2018)," said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble. "I remain very proud of this golf team and their individual and team accomplishments. Now, we will prepare for our post season tournaments.

Isaiah Shaw of Fayetteville State University and Virginia Union's Robel Woldagabriel were tied for 2018 Individual CIAA Medalist with a two-day score of 153. Isaiah survived a two-hole play-off to beat Union's Robel Woldagabriel to be crowned low Medalist for the Championship event. On the All-Tournament team, Shaw is joined by VUU's Robel Woldagabriel, Philip Harrison, Livingstone College (154), Tyler Futrell, Elizabeth City State University and DeJuan Powell of Johnson C Smith University were tied for the final two spots with a two-day score of 155.

Allan Day and Paul Meints 2018 CIAA Championship Series performance (Southern, Northern and CIAA Championship) allowed them to be selected to the 2018 All-CIAA First Team Championship rankings. Meints and Day earned a 76.8 and 80.83, respectively. The All-CIAA First Team includes student-athletes with the Top 10 lowest averages throughout the Championship Series.
