VUU Salutes Seniors in Home Softball Finale

Virginia Union University's softball team honored the three seniors on the squad as the Panthers hosted Virginia State University in a double-header on Sunday, April 14, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.

The three seniors honored were Brionna Coleman, Heaven Jones and Daionna Wright.

Coleman, a senior infielder from Tappahannock, Va., batted .308 with a home run for VUU this season.

Jones,  a senior outfielder from Baltimore, Md., saw action in six games and scored two runs this season.

Wright, a senior infielder from Emporia, Va., batted .320 and led the Lady Panthers with 18 runs batted in this season.

Unfortunately, VSU swept the Panthers 17-3 and 15-9 on the day.

In the first game, Wright and teammate Brenda Reninga drove in runs with singles.

In the second game, VUU's Yazmine Lewis drove in two runs while Wright and Audrenik Howard slammed doubles.

The losses gave VUU a final regular season record of 8-19 overall and 7-7 in CIAA play.

The CIAA softball championship tournament begins on April 29 in Salem, Va.
