Virginia Union University Spreads Christmas Cheer Throughout Surrounding Community
[RICHMOND, VA – December 17, 2021] -- This afternoon, Virginia Union University (VUU) will distribute Christmas gifts to families of Gilpin Court and students who are a part of the RVA Scholars program. This partnership, fostered by VUU, is a continued effort to serve the underserved, surrounding communities by establishing mentoring programs to prepare students for the future.
“Through the vision of our President, Dr. Hakim Lucas, one of the things we are planning to do is to make sure that we put that vision of Virginia Union right in the Gilpin Court community,” said Dr. Mark James, Mentoring Coordinator at VUU. “This is an opportunity for their ‘limitless future’ to become a reality by attending Virginia Union University.”
In November, VUU provided 19 families in the Gilpin Court community with $50 Kroger gift cards for Thanksgiving. The university has been in partnership with Gilpin Court for the past six years and has provided mentorship to students for the last two years.
