(Richmond, VA) - Virginia Union University marketing students developed and presented advertising campaigns for a class project in partnership with the VCU Brandcenter. They presented the campaigns during an” Advertising Sprint” at VUU.
“These experiences give our students the opportunity to learn in real life situations which will help them as they move into their career of choice,” said Dr. Hakim J. Lucas, President & CEO of Virginia Union University. “We value our partnerships with VCU and look for additional opportunities in the future.”
The 4 groups of students presented their client campaign ideas to a panel of judges who critiques their work and chose a winning presentation. The judges were:
Elizabeth Paul - Chief Strategy Officer for the US at MullenLowe advertising agency
Byron Morgan - Strategist at MullenLowe advertising agency and prepares marketing campaigns for Royal Caribbean
Cristian Castiglia - Jr. Strategist at MullenLowe and prepares marketing campaigns for Royal Caribbean
Michael Chaney - VCU Brandcenter Director’s Council Member, Entrepreneur, and former advertising executive
The winning team of Heaven Jones (’20), David Jones (’21), Aakaiya Carter (’20) and Shatayah Williams (’20) each received a $2,000 scholarship to the VCU Brandcenter upon applying and being accepted. The 2nd place team of Jawad Bushnaq (’21), Elijah Johnson (’20), Talesha King (’20), Leslie Tinsley (’20) and Chaunsa Saunders (’20) were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the VCU Brandcenter upon applying and being accepted. In addition, the panel selected an MVP and MVP Runner-up. MVP Kamryn Young (’20) was awarded a $10,000 scholarship to the Brandcenter and Runner-up Heaven Jones (’20) received a $5,000 scholarship. Both will receive the scholarships upon applying and being accepted.
“I am very proud of the professionalism and work that the students presented,” said Ricky Parker, adjunct professor of marketing. “The opportunity to present to the caliber of our judges shines a light on the richness of the academic programs at VUU.”
The students will be able to use this experience as a platform to prepare them for life after undergrad. VUU is dedicated to provide students with opportunities and resources that will allow them to have a limitless future.
