Virginia Union University's Allan Day, a member of the 2018 All-CIAA Golf Team, qualified as First Alternate to play in the 2018 Delta Dental State Open of Virginia.
Day's qualifying score of three-over-par 75 at The Lake Chesdin Golf Club landed him in a three-way tie for the First Alternate spot. Day went on to win the first sudden death play-off hole with a birdie to capture sole possession as First Alternate and was later selected to fill out the tournament field of 144 golfers, which included 70 amateurs and 74 professional golfers.
Day is a rising senior and he is entering his third year as a member of the VUU Men's Golf Team. Day played in the number 1 and 2 positions during the VUU 2017 Fall and 2018 Spring Golf seasons.
The Delta Dental State Open of Virginia will be contested at The Ballyhack Golf Club in Roanoke, Va. The Ballyhack course is a par 72 on 7,294 yards in a links style layout with rolling hills and very wide fairways. The tournament is a 54-hole contest beginning July 19–21, 2018.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Allan and for VUU and the CIAA Conference to be represented in the 2018 Delta Dental State Open of Virginia," said VUU Head Golf Coach E. Lee Coble. "Allan's participation marks another first for a VUU collegiate golfer."
