Virginia Union University's Jordan White scored a career-high 26 points to lead VUU to a hard-fought 82-76 win over Livingstone College on Saturday, December 15, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
"This was a good character win for us today," said VUU Head Coach Jay Butler. "We got up big early in the second half and Livingstone made a run to take the lead. We kept our composure and made plays to get the win."
It marked the first time that White, a sophomore from Frederick, Md., has scored in double-figures in his college career.
"I was happy for Jordan White today," Butler said. "He made some huge shots in the second half."
VUU's Demarius Pitts, a freshman from Clinton, Md., also scored a career-high 23 points in the win.
"Demarius continues to give us that scoring throughout the game," said Butler.
Virginia Union's Jemal Smith scored 10 points and had six steals while Will Jenkins led the Panthers on the boards with 13 rebounds.
The win raised VUU's record to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in CIAA play. Livingstone saw a four-game win streak snapped and fell to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now faces Johnson C. Smith University at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
